Gift ideas for an anime fan in India: a tee they'll actually wear

Buying for an anime fan is hard if you don't watch anime. You know they love "that one with the pirates" or "the one where everyone has eyes like that", and that's about it.

Good news: a tee is one of the easier anime gifts to get right. It's cheaper than a figure, it doesn't need shelf space, and they'll wear it in front of their friends, which is the whole point. You just need three things: the right character, the right size and enough time for it to arrive.

Step 1: find out their favourite character without asking

Asking "who's your favourite anime character?" gives away the surprise. Try these instead.

Check their phone wallpaper or WhatsApp DP. Anime fans put their favourite character everywhere. If you see a guy with white hair and a blindfold, that's Satoru Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen. A red cloud on a black cloak is the Akatsuki from Naruto, usually Itachi.

Look at their Instagram saved posts or the reels they send you. Whoever shows up most is your answer.

Ask a friend who watches with them. Every anime fan has one friend they fight with about power levels. That friend knows.

Listen for names. If they've ever complained that "Zoro has no sense of direction" or said "Gear 5 changed everything", you have your answer.

Step 2: match the character to the tee

Here's a quick cheat sheet for the anime our tees cover. Links go to the tee.

Jujutsu Kaisen. The big name is Satoru Gojo. Ours has the big print on the back and comes in lavender, baby blue or off white.

One Piece. Two options. Luffy Gear 5 is for the fan who loves the goofy, overpowered side of Luffy. Zoro, the King of Hell is for the fan who thinks Zoro is the real main character. If they get upset when someone says Sanji is stronger, get Zoro.

Naruto. Itachi Uchiha. Almost every Naruto fan has an Itachi phase, and most of them never came out of it.

Attack on Titan. Eren Yeager. Only if they've finished the series, since the ending still starts arguments.

Demon Slayer. Inosuke Hashibira, the one with the boar mask. Good for someone who's loud and funny.

My Hero Academia. Bakugo. Good for someone who's loud and angry, but in a lovable way.

Blue Lock. Isagi Yoichi. A good pick for someone who plays football as well as watching anime.

Code Geass. Lelouch. Code Geass fans are rarer and very loyal. If they're one, they'll love that you knew.

Not sure at all? Gojo and Luffy are the safest bets. Most anime fans like both, even if neither is their number one.

Step 3: guess their size without asking

This is where most clothing gifts go wrong.

The easiest trick is to borrow a tee they wear a lot, one that fits them loosely, and measure it flat across the chest from armpit to armpit. Compare that with the size chart, which is the last photo on every product page. Our anime tees are oversized, so they're cut loose on purpose, with the shoulder dropping lower than a regular tee. If you want to know how they should look on, we explained it in how an oversized tee should fit.

If you really can't measure, go with the size they normally buy in regular tees. Don't size up. The oversized cut already has the extra room built in.

And if you still get it wrong, it's fixable. Within 7 days of delivery they can swap it for the right size for free, or return it for a full refund, from the Orders page. The pickup costs nothing extra, but do measure if you can.

Step 4: order early enough

Every ZOJO tee is printed on demand in India after you order, so it isn't sitting in a warehouse ready to ship the same hour. It's usually printed and shipped within 24-48 working hours, and most orders arrive 5-8 working days after that. Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast can take up to 10. So order at least 10 days before the birthday, and a bit earlier around Diwali.

Shipping is free to anywhere in India. You can pay the full amount online, or pay 20% now and the rest when it's delivered. We don't take full cash on delivery.

What it costs

Right now our anime oversized tees are Rs 899, down from an MRP of Rs 1,199, and that includes GST and shipping. If you're buying two, say for twins or a couple who both watch anime, the launch offer makes it 2 oversized tees for Rs 1,599. It's applied in the bag, no code needed.

Not an anime fan after all?

Sometimes the person you're shopping for is into something else. We have a few other collections that make easy gifts:

A small tip for the wrapping

Fold the tee so the print faces up and is the first thing they see when they open it. For a back-print tee like Gojo or Zoro, fold it with the back facing up. It's a small thing. Anime fans notice.
