The best Diwali gift under Rs 1,000 is one the person will use after the festival is over, picked for what they're into. A printed t-shirt does that well: on our store every tee is Rs 699 to Rs 999 with GST and shipping included, so the whole gift stays under a thousand.

Why a tee works at this budget

Most gifts at this price get used once. A box of sweets is gone in two days, and a candle set sits in a drawer.

A tee gets worn. It also says you paid attention, because you had to know one thing about the person to choose it. What do they watch? Do they lift? Is there a god they pray to every morning? One answer is enough.

And there's nothing extra to pay. The price on the page is the price at checkout.

Pick by who it's for

Don't start with the design you like. Start with them.

The anime fan. Our oversized anime tees are Rs 899 each. Three we looked at again today:

Naruto and Sasuke has both of them on one full colour poster panel on the chest. It comes in black, navy blue or off white.
Satoru Gojo has a big purple print on the back and a small portrait on the chest. Lavender, off white or baby blue.
Zoro, The King of Hell has him mid-leap with swords drawn on the back, in bottle green, black or petrol blue.

The gym friend. Certified Beast is Rs 699. The back is laid out like a food label, with an ingredients line and a barcode, and there's a small badge on the chest. More lines like it are on the funny gym t-shirts page.

Someone who prays to Shiva. Har Har Mahadev is a poster-style print with the words across the top. It's Rs 699 in orange, white or black, and it goes up to 3XL, which helps when you're buying for an uncle or your father. The other three are with our Lord Shiva t-shirts.

The cat person. Protect Your Peace is a ginger cat in a headscarf and sunglasses holding a glass of wine. It's a women's tee at Rs 699 in four colours. There are more cat t-shirts if she already owns one.

What each price gets you

Three prices, three kinds of tee.

Rs 699: a regular fit in 100% cotton at 180 GSM. Women's tees and crop tops cost the same.
Rs 899: an oversized fit in 100% cotton at 240 GSM, with dropped sleeves.
Rs 999: a terry oversized tee in 260 GSM cotton and polyester terry. It's the thickest one we make.

Buying for two or three people brings the price down. Any 2 regular tees are Rs 1,199 and any 3 are Rs 1,749. Two oversized tees are Rs 1,599. The designs don't have to match, and the bag works it out for you.

This is the part people get wrong. We print every tee after you order it, so it isn't sitting in a warehouse ready to go.

It ships within 24 to 48 working hours. Most orders arrive in 5 to 8 working days, and J&K and the Northeast can take up to 10. Diwali is on 8 November this year, so order by 30 October if you want it in your hands before the day.

Getting the size right without asking

Asking "what's your size?" ruins the surprise. Borrow a tee they already wear, lay it flat and measure across the chest from armpit to armpit. Double that number and match it to the size chart on the product page. Our post on how to measure t-shirt size has the steps.

Can't get hold of one of their tees? Go by their usual size and don't worry too much. If it doesn't fit, they can swap the size for free. They can also return it within 7 days of delivery for a full refund.

Is a t-shirt a good Diwali gift?

Yes, when it matches something they care about. A tee with their favourite character or their gym joke feels more personal than a generic gift box.
